Following the recent successful Kiwi AgTech Immersion Program and Conference in Silicon Valley, Wharf42 has been approached by the India New Zealand Business Council (INZBC) to assist build out the program and agenda for the INZBC AgTech Summit. This is taking place on 13 June at the Langham Hotel in Auckland.

And great news! It reconnects Wharf42 with one of the Summit’s key co-sponsors, Callaghan Innovation. (Andrew & Victoria; you cannot shake us off that easily!)

In all the seriousness though, this Summit does provide New Zealand’s emerging AgTech sector with an opportunity to reach out to another set of significant potential global partners. Over the past few days I have still, through different reports, channels and conversations, been getting the question: ‘Does New Zealand actually have a recognised AgTech innovation ecosystem’? The overwhelming response from the Kiwi AgTech delegation in Silicon Valley is that the answer should be in the affirmative.

In my view, it is still work in progress.

Back to the INZBC Summit. It is a major fixture in the annual New Zealand – India trade calendar. This year, the focus is on AgTech, with a large delegation  of Indian AgTech businesses traveling over to New Zealand to meet and engage with New Zealand counterparts. The Summit coincides with Fieldays and so the delegation will be heading south to Mystery Creek, Hamilton following the AgTech Summit in Auckland. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to introduce Kiwi AgTech companies to one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

For me, this is also a trip down memory lane. I established by my first tech business in Bangalore back in September 2001. For twelve years, I visited India many, many times and never lost my belief in the opportunity this fast growing economy offers New Zealand in terms of increased trade links. Time then to re-connect some of the dots built up over the years. I’m looking forward to catching up with some old faces next month.

Over the next few weeks, Wharf42 will work with INZBC and Callaghan Innovation to help firm up the program and agenda and begin to announce more speakers. I will update the blog and our Twitter handle at @Wharf42HQ with these details as they become available.

If you are looking at connecting with some of the biggest players in India’s AgTech ecosystem, this is one event you cannot miss.
