Onesixone Ltd has developed a software-hardware solution, called SoundSwitch, which bridges the gap between industry standard DJ software and entertainment lighting systems.

SoundSwitch offers DJs the ability to seamlessly integrate DMX lighting with live audio, in an easy to use software-hardware package. It is a technology that gives DJs greater creative control and superior performance capabilities, in multiple environments. SoundSwitch works by allowing DJs to attach lighting cues/effects to audio files so that when played, the customised lighting display occurs automatically, as the DJ intended. It provides the connection between the performer, the music and the lighting system; Soundswitch provides applications that have the ability to be game changers throughout the live entertainment industry.

Remembering Pacha and fun times, 37 years ago

WNT Ventures invested into Onesixone last year. This week, the team are attending the annual NAMM trade show in Anaheim, CA. NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, is the not-for-profit association that promotes the pleasures and benefits of making music and strengthens the $17 billion global music products industry. Onesixone are attending NAMM with that other amazing Kiwi company, Serato, which has created the world’s leading audio software for professional DJs and musicians. These guys rock.

Back in Tauranga, the Onesixone team of five full-time employees are based at WNT Ventures offices in Basestation. It’s great to be able to watch a group of real creatives begin to build a world-class business. It’s one of the very cool things about being involved in a leading New Zealand tech-focused incubator. There is however another, perhaps even more nostalgic reason, for watching this amazing startup grow.

It takes me back to the summer of 1978. I had just left university and was taking time out (summer) in Ibiza. I was hanging out in San Antonio and my favourite local nightclub was Pacha. It had already established a reputation for organising some of the biggest and best DJ gigs in the Med. Top DJs would be flown out from London to strut their stuff. Today, the club still hosts some of the biggest names in the business. I cannot think of many clubs going so strong, 37 years on.

One of the biggest attractions at Pacha was its light shows. They were amazing. It’s hard for me personally to believe that today, I would be supporting a business that will revolutionise the technology that so impressed me that long ago.

Zak, Matt, Callum and the team behind SoundSwitch have both the ability and the opportunity. As part of the WNT Ventures ecosystem, they have access to a wide range of expertise that will help accelerate their growth. And by working with partners such as Serato, New Zealand really does have the opportunity to light up the world of live entertainment.

Now that really does rock!
