As a co-founder of WNT Ventures, this means of course that you will also get the opportunity to work with Wharf42 and our other great investor team partners. WNT Ventures operates a $3.5 million fund which also gains access, via the technology incubator scheme, to receive further investment capital via Callaghan Innovation to commercialise pre-revenue companies.

WNT Ventures is a team of four and all members are expected take part in all aspect of the business.

Specific duties include:

  • Deal sourcing and evaluation of technologies for incubation and investment
  • Considering technical information for translation into commercial opportunity
  • Ongoing hands-on management of companies within the WNT Portfolio in the current Fund I and a proposed Fund II
  • Conducting due diligence assessments and liaising with external technological experts where necessary
  • Preparing assessment reports, investment recommendations for CEO and Investment Committee consideration
  • Negotiating terms and finalising investments
  • Working with early stage technologies to develop commercial strategies
  • Developing and managing relationships with external stakeholders including Crown Research Institutes, Universities and the private sector
  • Identifying further sources of deal flow nationwide

The ideal candidate will have a strong education background, preferably with a science or engineering degree or higher.   They will have a solid work history and provide evidence of an inquiring mind.  Work experience in private equity, investment banking or in entrepreneurial companies is also a plus. Interest in and an understanding of finance and commerce preferable.

Technical Skills/Competencies

Commercial acumen, strategic thinking, information gathering, analysis and judgement, excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Must be capable of working with limited direction while managing multiple projects – a sense of humour is a must and a passion for working in the early stage industry will get you a long way.

This role will require travel throughout New Zealand and the individual will need to have a current drivers licence.
